Steven Rickard offers his services as a Chartered Arbitrator in selected real estate matters. After graduating from McMaster University in 1974, with an Honours degree in Urban Geography he began his lifelong business & personal interest in real estate. During his career he accomplished roles as an accredited real estate appraiser, licensed realtor, multifamily property owner and entrepreneur in the area of property tax consulting.
He also became an arbitration instructor, served on a panel of arbitrators at the Calgary Real Estate Board and arbitrated cases for the Alberta New Home Warranty Program. He provides real estate consulting services to various professions including lawyers, accountants and engineers. Steve has an affinity, because of his small business background for smaller less complex dispute resolutions found in real estate, construction, lease renewals and insurance disputes.
As to civic involvement, Steve has served as Board Chair for the Calgary based non-profit organization known as Motive Action (bringing the automotive trades to unemployed youth) and in 2000 he served as the Calgary West Rotary Club’s president, going on to become the District’s Governor in 2005.
Steve’s (now retired) designations included Fellow of the Real Estate Institute of Canada (FRI); Certified Land-Use Planner (CLP).; member of the Association of Ontario Land Economist (PLE), and member of the Appraisal Institute of Canada (AACI). He is actively engaged with the ADRIA (Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Alberta) and the ADR Institute of Canada as a Certified Arbitrator (C. Arb). He was recently appointed to the Arbitration Panel of the Calgary Better Business Bureau.
